Poetry & Spirituality

http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/modern_us_poetry/106991

This is a first for this site; no video and no sound. Like Eckhart Tolle's videos, this poetry is full of healing energy, and succeeds at pointing to what cannot be named, learned, taught, tamed...

"Poetry is the language vehicle of spirituality. Because spirituality is of a different plane of being from the physical and mental, only metaphor can attempt to express the essence of spirituality. One of the foremost poet's of the spiritual is the great yogi, Paramahansa Yogananda. And one of his most beloved volumes of poems/prayers is Whispers from Eternity.

A "Prayer for a United World" opens Metaphysical Meditations, including the following lines:

May the heads of all countries and races be guided to understand that men of nations are physically and spiritually one . . . . Let us pray in our hearts for a League of Souls and a United World.

Following this prayer for a united world, the foreword tells us that:

"Meditation is the science of God-realization. It is the most practical science in the world. Most people would want to meditate if they understood its value and experienced it beneficial effects."

The great yogi goes on to tell us the purpose of meditation is the attainment of the awareness of God and the soul's eternal oneness with God. Because meditation uses a high form of concentration, the chanting or repeating of certain affirmations in the form of songs and poems is very beneficial."

Pramod Guided Meditations

http://pramod.podomatic.com/

This is a Web-page with lots of guided meditations by a woman from India; they can sound a bit robotic, but if you get beyond that, they're quite good ;o)

"Pramod is a spiritual being from India. This is a podcast of our celebrated signature series 'Manifest your Destiny', which is broadcast on our 24 / 7 inspirational talk radio station, Spirit Imprints Radio, which airs talk shows on meditation, Law of Attraction, abundance, Indian mantras, Eastern spirituality, etc as well as a variety of other programs like OTR & modern dramas, all genres of music, news, etc."

The Barefoot Doctor

http://www.barefootdoctorglobal.com/medmusic/1/

Wonderful site. There's an option to join for about 6 bucks per month and download other meditations; these approximately 3-minute tracks are fast, slow, soothing and nice ;o)There's even live meditation at some point (with a count-down clock until the next one)!

"Barefoot Doctor enjoyed a mystically oriented childhood, studied Aikido, energy healing and meditation at age 11, studied yoga, Tai Chi in his late teens, the human psyche and how to approach it with RD Laing in his early 20s, shamanism living with the Native Americans for four years in New Mexico and acupuncture and Taoism in his mid- to late -twenties, returned to London in ’83, ran a busy acupuncture healing practice till 2000, while also doing experimental performance events, workshops, seminars and talks, making healing music and teaching Tai Chi and meditation. In 2000 he went full time into book-writing, media and running this site, which has been in existence since 1998 as an informal online Taoism training school and virtual clinic (through email coaching). He spends his time writing, running the site, making music, doing workshops, seminars, talks and musical events around the world and helping people. He is now also running School For Warriors an 8-week online course in the principles of personal power. His 13th book, THE MAN WHO DROVE WITH HIS EYES CLOSED - AND MY OTHER ASTONISHING TEACHERS AND GURUS is now out, published by Hay House in the UK and in the US in January 2010 also with Hay House, under the title, SUPERCHARGED TAOIST."

Medicine, Miracles, and Manifestations: A Doctor's Journey Through the Worlds of Divine Intervention, Near-Death Experiences and Universal Energy

Brain Sounds Meditation
"Brainsounds Of the Pacific is a two-part audio program designed to promote relaxation. It is best appreciated using headphones as it contains barely-liminal audio signals for neural detection (BLAND) and may be missed when using stereo speakers. The bland audio signals are presented as frequency shifted signals (FFS) to the ears. This combination is felt by some to produce synchronization of the brain's hemispheres.
Brainsounds Of the Pacific has been used over the past twenty years with patients and students (psychology course at the University of Utah). The response to users of these audio programs has been uniformly positive."

Stillness Speaks Spiritual/Meditative Videos

http://stillnessspeaks.com/videos

Amazing videos on this beautiful website; one example of an 11 minute video is: "Dogen Zen Buddhism: Non Dual Meditation and Self Realization". The video synopsis reads:

"Nice drama on the search for nondual truth when it becomes the first and only remaining desire. In the 13th century, Dogen, a young Japanese monk traveled to China, determined to find his true master. There he found a monk who taught him that sitting in Zen meditation is the true a path to enlightenment."

Internet Archive "Body Image Relaxation"

http://www.archive.org/details/CandiRaudebaughBodyImageRelaxation

"This body image relaxation script is a guided meditation focused on self-acceptance and self-image."

I realize that I've already mentioned the Internet Archive below (with the 3 music links), but this guided meditation by Candi Raudebaugh is nice ;o) It lasts about 12 minutes.

Meditation Timers

Jet City Orange Meditation Timer

These timers can be nice when using music from your own collection, so you know when the time is up! They also work well with their own timed music, which plays on a loop - not distracting and silent meditation is always an option ;o)

"It is my sincere wish that these suggestions help you learn how to meditate. These are general guidelines. I am not advocating any one approach, philosophy, or school of thought. The important thing is to do it with an clear and honest intent. (For the record, "Tibetan Buddhism" myself.)

The best suggestion I can give you is to make meditation a daily habit. Schedule it, put it in your calendar, set an alarm, be regular about it. As my wise friend Michael Shapiro told me, "Do it first thing in the morning." If I read the newspaper, check my email, or listen to NPR first, my head is too full to empty it.

The more you do it, the more you'll do it. I've found that once I began, I couldn't not do it."

Meditation Podcast

http://www.themeditationpodcast.com/episodes.html

This is a big favorite for me right now - I highly recommend it. Jesse and Jeane Stern produce the meditations and run the site on a donation-only basis; CD's are for sale as well. Here's a helpful intro paragraph form their site:

"Remember that this podcast uses sound technology that affects the brain. It works best with headphones, and should not be used while driving or operating machinery.

Please bear in mind, we are not licensed health care practitioners, and we do not claim any specific health effects from using this meditation. This podcast is for educational use only, not as a replacement for professional medical treatment. You are responsible for your own health!

With that, let's begin. "

Meditation Room

http://www.learningmeditation.com/room.htm

I don't know much about the founder of this site, but here's a blurb from the "Learning to Relax" tab (good shop with cd's and a nice section with links):

"My preference would be to call meditation relaxation – conscious relaxation, chosen relaxation. These are words that are more universally understood, more comfortable. Constantly working toward the goal of discovering my own ability to reach a state of serenity, I have learned to meditate."

Eckhart Tolle Youtube.com Channel

Well, this is the first link that isn't a "pure" guided meditation, but these videos are so transformative, and filled with high-energy, that they serve as a great meditation tool:

Thousands of meditations from a Google search on "meditation" on the link above (on Google, the videos can be sorted by duration longer than 20 minutes!); many of the Google videos are from youtube.com and I've had an ongoing collection of favorites on my youtube page:

Fragrant Heart Transformative Meditation

http://www.fragrantheart.com/cms/free-audio-meditations

This is a great site with a large selection of guided meditations by the founder of Fragrant Heart - Elisabeth Blaikie - and there are often new meditations as well!

As Ram Dass so clearly writes:

"Remember, we are all affecting the world every moment, whether we mean to or not. Our actions and states of mind matter, because we're so deeply interconnected with one another. Working on our own consciousness is the most important thing that we are doing at any moment, and being love is the supreme creative act."

"The Vision of FragrantHeart.com
Fragrant Heart is family run, with the expertise in web site creation of my daughters, Maggie and Anna, and sons-in-law, Michael and Han. I am very grateful to both of my daughters who have always encouraged me to teach from my experience and to write; to put meditation in a perspective that reaches out to others in ways that people can learn to meditate simply and effectively. By doing so each person, no matter what state their life is in right now, can find the doorway that opens for them to greater inner peace and love. World peace, global consciousness starts with each one of us.

Now living in my little home by the beach, surrounded by my loved ones, I am writing, crafting, and spending time in nature. It has been a deeply inward and immensely joyful time to be able to write these meditations for you.
I wish each and every one of you the deepest peace and the most abiding love,
Elisabeth"

Meditation Oasis

http://www.meditationoasis.com/podcast/listen-to-podcast/

Thirty one meditations, as well as a link to a meditation on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-5kttiDPnw

"Meditation Oasis and Mary & Richard Maddux
The inspiration to create this website came from the overwhelmingly positive response to our Meditation Oasis podcast. As we began to see how easily people were beginning to meditate and the positive impact it was having in their lives, we looked for more ways to support their experience with meditation. We plan to continue to expand the content of this website and develop programs to support people in learning and practicing meditation."

"About SpiritStep
Emotional Stability - Serenity - Improved Health - Quality Sobriety
Take the 1st Step Towards Eleventh Step Meditation

The First Step of Alcoholics Anonymous states: "Admitted we were powerless over alcohol, and that our lives had become unmanageable." The Eleventh Step of Alcoholics Anonymous states: "Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out."

In learning meditation, the first SpiritStep is to "Admit that we are powerless over our thoughts and emotions and that they are unmanageable." How can we overcome this?

The SpiritStep objective is to develop an understanding of the 11th step from Alcoholics Anonymous, learn to apply it, from the very 1st step, and to teach easy and understandable methods of meditation as a tool for recovery and overcoming any life situation.

Relax, observe and let go of unmanageable thoughts, emotions, and physical habits."

Free Meditation Music from Peter Gabriel's New Site!

http://www.we7.com/#/album/Shakuhachi-Meditation-Music--Meian-Ryu!albumId=99689

"Peter Gabriel founded free music service, We7 has signed a deal with Europe's largest independent music label group, Beggars Group."

From The Economist on Peter Gabriel's free music site:

"Business
Spotify v illegal downloads

Free but legal
Jul 30th 2009
From The Economist print edition

Advertising-supported music will not save a troubled industry. But it helps

CAN legal free music compete with the illegal stuff? It seems so. Firms such as Spotify, founded by Swedish programmers, and we7, based in Britain, stream music on demand to European computers in return for nothing more burdensome than the odd advertisement. Together they have quickly amassed 8m users. On March 24th Spotify asked Apple to authorise an application for the iPhone that would take music-streaming mobile."

"How it works:
This is all made possible by we7's unique and significant "MediaGraft" technology that allows us to dynamically attach adverts to the beginning of each song you stream or download. The "MediaGraft" technology also creates new, targeted, advertising inventory which links the emotional power of music, creative short audio adverts and digital display ads (such as MPUs) together in such a way that digital effectiveness measurements increase significantly. These adverts are targeted at you, the user; the revenue generated from these adverts goes to artists, labels and other rights owners. You get music for free and the artist gets paid fairly - everybody wins."

The Chi of Love CD with Audio Sample

http://www.thechioflovecd.com/index.htm

This is a nice meditation (a free sample about half way down the page - it can be replayed, since it only lasts about 8 minutes), but pricey at 20 dollars to purchase the audio file and 30 dollars for the cd; I emailed the creator and he says that the audio file and CD last about 45 minutes.

"I created this CD because I was looking for a way to improve my ability to meditate, while focusing on gratitude and love. I've learned from the experts about Unconditional Love and the Power of Gratitude. They are both keys to creating the life I truly desire and to tapping in to The Law of Attraction.

After doing more research I found a way to add an element of sound called 'Binaural Beats' that would greatly enhance my ability to change my vibration. Upon further study, I discovered the exact frequency of Love! With great excitement, I put together this CD containing all the components necessary to completely change my life."

Internet Archive - Three Meditation Tracks

http://www.archive.org/details/mt018

These 3 tracks are very nice and soothing. Internet archive is an amazing resource with a massive "open source" collection; over 6,000 Grateful Dead shows as well ;o)

Check out this page for a nice list of links to Internet libraries and free speech sites: http://www.archive.org/about/about.php

"The Internet Archive is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that was founded to build an Internet library, with the purpose of offering permanent access for researchers, historians, and scholars to historical collections that exist in digital format. Founded in 1996 and located in the Presidio of San Francisco, the Archive has been receiving data donations from Alexa Internet and others. In late 1999, the organization started to grow to include more well-rounded collections. Now the Internet Archive includes texts, audio, moving images, and software as well as archived web pages in our collections."

"Cosmic Lullabies is the sixth album from the Finnish ambient producer Doc and the Russian pianist Lena Selyanina, cosmic and meditative in its style and spirit.

The opening track Bell Meditation is a pure meditation song based on huge bell sounds that resonate and vibrate for extended periods of time. Gradually rising ethereal echoes from sacred eastern choral tradition mix with the bells to form a calm and majestic cosmic setting, perfect for deep relaxation and meditation.

The starting point for Neptune was Lena's beautiful impressionistic piano improvisation moving in G# Minor, "the bluest of musical modes", as Lena puts it. The piano then gets surrounded by a mysterious and meditative ambient soundworld. The entire 17 minute song can be interpreted as a long, symbolic probe-like dive through the blue, dreamlike gas layers of Neptune to ever deeper and darker realms, all the way down to the solid rock and metal core of the planet, and from there back to the starlight.

The final track Andromeda is an ambient voyage into the majestic sphere of our neighbour galaxy."
